Ingredients
- cup butter or margarine
- cup dark brown sugar
- large egg
- cup light or dark molasses
- cup sour milk (or use fresh milk and teaspoon lemon juice)
- teaspoon ginger
- teaspoon salt
- teaspoon cinnamon
- teaspoon ground cloves
- teaspoon baking soda
- cups flour
Instructions
- Cream the butter, then add in the order listed - brown sugar, egg, molasses, sour milk, ginger, salt , cinnamon, cloves, and flour with baking soda, sifted into it.
- Mix well.
- Wrap in aluminum foil and chill in refrigerator overnight.
- Roll dough out on floured board to inch thickness and cut to favorite shapes, or pull small pieces of dough, shape into balls, and put on greased cookie sheet and then flatten to inch thickness.
- Bake on greased cookie sheet in preheated oven for to minutes.
- Remove from cookie sheet to rack to cool.
- Serve as is, or decorate with sugar frosting.
Tip
Makes dozen or more cookies, depending on size and shapes you choose.
